Why KNX

Why we build on KNX

KNX is the globally recognised standard for home and building control. Hundreds of manufacturers make KNX devices, and certified installers work with it around the world. That matters for the people who live in the home long after the build is finished.

01

Hardwired and dependable

Every switch, sensor and heating zone is wired into the fabric of the house. Control runs locally, so nothing you rely on day to day needs Wi-Fi or an internet connection. (Remote app access and our remote diagnostics use a secure cloud connection.)

02

Open, so you are never tied to one company

Because KNX is a shared standard, your system can be maintained and extended by any KNX professional, now and in twenty years’ time.

03

Built to last as long as the house

We use Ekinex devices, which are designed to last as long as the home’s electrical wiring, or longer.

04

One system for the whole home

Lighting, heating, shading, security and access work together, so a single press can settle the whole house for the evening.

KNX without the on-site programming

We do the KNX programming before anything reaches site.

KNX has always been reliable. What has held it back in homes is how it is usually delivered: a specialist integrator programmes everything on site, late in the build, and every later change goes back to them.

Your system is designed around your plans, programmed and tested off-site, and delivered labelled and ready to connect. Your electrician installs it during the normal first and second fix. Once you have moved in, you can adjust scenes, schedules and Smart Events yourself in the app, whenever you like.

The process

From drawings to move-in day

Four steps, built around your build programme.

01

Design consultation

We look at your plans and agree what the home needs to do. The consultation is free.

02

Configured off-site

We build and programme your system at our Huntingdon facility and test it before it ships.

03

Installed by your electrician

Any qualified electrician can fit it. We train them for free: 90 minutes online, or half a day in person at our Northamptonshire head office.

04

Handover and support

After handover, you come to us directly with any questions, and most are resolved remotely.

Cost

What a KNX system costs

Starts from around
£5/sq ft

per square foot of the home you are building.

That figure covers

  • System design
  • Hardware
  • Off-site configuration
  • Software

Quoted separately

  • Installation by your electrician
  • End devices: light fittings, blinds, AV
  • Any decoration

Every project is quoted individually, and once quoted, the price is fixed. The figure depends on how much of the home you want the system to control. For a figure based on your drawings, get a fixed quote.

Common questions

KNX questions we are often asked

A new build is the best time to choose KNX, because the cabling goes in with the rest of the electrics. Wiring it in from the start gives you a system that lasts as long as the house and can be extended later.

Yes. We programme the system before it arrives, so any qualified electrician can install it. We train them for free, online or in person.

Not with Baulogic. The programming an integrator would usually do on site is done by us before delivery, and Baulogic supports the home directly after handover.

Yes. Scenes, schedules and Smart Events are yours to adjust in the app, whenever you like.

Everyday control runs over the home’s own wiring, so lighting, heating, shading and security keep working if the internet drops. Remote access from your phone and our remote diagnostics use a secure cloud connection.

Yes. To spread the cost, prewire for things like blinds, bedside switches and extra sensors now, and add the controls later. Lighting is the one to decide up front, so we help you choose the rooms that matter most.

From around £5 per square foot of the home, quoted per project and then fixed.
