Baulogic designed and installed an intelligent home automation system for The Newton - an award-winning student accommodation scheme by Cambridge-based property developer Chard Robinson. A single touch panel in each unit is used to control the lighting and underfloor heating, and to answer video calls from the communal entrance.
The Newton comprises 23 studio and one-bedroom apartments and has set a new precedent for student accommodation in Cambridge. Each unit contains a living area, a bedroom or sleeping area, a contemporary kitchen, in-built wardrobe, and an ensuite shower room. All of the apartments feature underfloor heating, an intelligent scene-based lighting control system and a data network. A simple-to-use touch panel in the main living area provides the resident with a single interface to the smart home functions – including the lights throughout the apartment, a very flexible heating time clock, and the video entry system.
Named Best Residential Development in Cambridgeshire at the annual UK Property Management Awards in 2014, The Newton was designed to provide students with technology-driven and environmentally-friendly living spaces and was awarded the highest score of 5 stars by the judges.
The Chard Robinson Group is an investor in Baulogic, recognising the comfort, convenience and energy-saving benefits that intelligent building controls can bring to market-leading property developments, from small student homes to high-end luxury residences.
